The Turning Point

Posted on

We're back in Acts 3 today for our first reading. The Gospel reading picks up where we left off yesterday in Luke 24, following the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus.

In Acts 3, we hear Peter saying to the people, "Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away, and that the Lord may grant you times of refreshment...For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways."

Jesus came to "bless you by turning you from your evil ways." First, we probably don't like to think that we are engaging in "evil ways." But perhaps on further review we might rethink that. Evil happens on many levels. Have you ever thought evil thoughts? Ever watch inappropriate (evil, perhaps?) content online or on TV? Only once we realize that our ways may indeed be evil can we decide to be blessed by allowing Jesus to help turn us from evil.

Father, may we have eyes to see our own participation in evil and allow Jesus' grace into our hearts to turn us from our evil ways. Amen.
