The Really Hard Stuff

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 6, we continue to hear from Jesus' Sermon on the Plain. This is where Jesus begins saying things that probably sounded ridiculous to the disciples. Truth is, they're still hard to hear.

"Love your enemies and do good to them...be merciful...stop judging...forgive and you will be forgiven...the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you."

Being a Christian is not easy. Quite the contrary - it is hard. Jesus' teachings seem to go against our very nature; well, our corrupted nature anyway. This part of the teachings of Jesus contains the really hard stuff. But remember - though it may be really hard, it is not impossible. All things are possible with God. Even the really hard stuff.

Father, give us the grace to practice these hard teachings of Jesus. May we be more like Him each day. Amen.
