The Power of Giving

Posted on

Lent is a great time for us to come clean - to look inward and admit our faults to God. We see this in our first reading from Daniel 9 in the beautiful prayer of Daniel.

In the Gospel reading from Luke 6, we see (among many other things) the power of giving. Jesus said, "Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap."

My wife has a saying that she reminds me of often (mostly because I need it often): You can't outgive God. Jesus affirms this. And this is not the "Prosperity Gospel." When we give, we open our hearts. And open hearts have much more room to receive and acknowledge blessings. God will not be outdone in generosity.

Father, help us to be generous, as you are generous. Amen.
