"The Old is Good"

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 5, Jesus talks about the old and the new. He talks about cloaks and wine.

Jesus said, "New wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, 'The old is good.'"

It's easy to get into a comfortable routine. I tend to be a creature of habit, and I suspect most folks are the same. But we can get so stuck in our routines that we never see that there may be a better way. The old is good. Why would I want to change? Perhaps it's good to reassess now and again, to "taste a different wine" and see if there is something better.

Father, help us to be open to new things, to a new outpouring of your Spirit. Amen.
