The Man from Galilee

Posted on

We know that Jesus is the fulfillment of the messianic prophesies in the Old Testament. We see some of that in today's readings.

In the first reading from Isaiah 8, we read about "the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali." Then in the Gospel reading from Matthew 4, Matthew quotes from Isaiah about how the messiah would come from Galilee.

Jesus' adopted hometown was Capernaum in Galilee. The word "Capernaum" means "town on the border." Capernaum was right on the border of Zebulun and Naphtali, thus fulfilling the prophecy from Isaiah. Galilee was considered by many as sort of a backwater region. "Can anything good come from Nazareth?" Perhaps that's why God chose it to bring forth His Son. You see, it doesn't matter where you're from. It matters where you're going.

Father, we thank you for our humble beginnings. No matter where we're from, use us to build your kingdom and glorify you. Amen.

Gus, I found you on Sirius XM. Although you aren’t there anymore, I feel like this is a good way to still “listen” to you. I also love how you link the daily readings to your reflection. I sincerely appreciate it.
