The Lord in Your Midst

Posted on

In the first reading today from Zephaniah 3, we read, "The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst, you have no further misfortune to fear. The LORD, your God, is in your midst, a mighty savior."

The Gospel reading from Luke 1 is the story of the Visitation, where Mary visits Elizabeth. Elizabeth, and John the Baptist in her womb, both recognized that the Lord was in their midst. An amazing moment!

The prophecy from Zephaniah still rings true today. As Catholics, we recognize the Lord in our midst in many ways, but most especially in the Eucharist. Think of it...every time you go to Mass, the Lord is not only in your midst, but on your tongue and in your belly! He becomes part of you. Now that's an intimate relationship.

Father, we thank you for sending Jesus in our midst, especially in the Eucharist. May we share that good news with all. Amen.
