In today's first reading from Hosea 8, we read this: "When they sow the wind, they shall reap the whirlwind."
Perhaps you've heard the old expression, "You reap what you sow." The Lord, through the prophet Hosea, is impressing this on the people. It is really a universal principle - the law of sowing and reaping.
The question for us is, what are we sowing? What is important to you? On what do you spend your time and energies? Are you sowing peace? Then you'll reap peace. Are you sowing division? Then you'll reap division. Are you sowing love of Jesus? Are you sowing seeds of grace? One more old expression that I think is relevant: Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it. Similarly, be careful what you sow, for that is what you'll reap.
Father, may we sow seeds of grace, that we may reap grace. Amen.
