The Inevitability of Trouble

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from John 16, Jesus gives the disciples a warning that He gave them many times. "In the world you will have trouble..." But let's look at this in the greater context.

He spoke these words at the Last Supper. But rather than just start and finish with that, He give them an assurance. Here's the relevant quote. "I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world."

Trouble is inevitable. No one has gone through life without it. Some have assuredly suffered more than others. This always reminds me to remember that no matter how much trouble I may be suffering through at any given time, someone has it much worse than me. Same for you. Even through our troubles, I hope we can heed the words of Jesus and take courage. He has conquered the world, and we can lean on His strength to see us through our troubles.

Father, give us the courage and strength to rely on Jesus to see us through all the troubles we encounter in life. Amen.

Yes, Gus, it is such a blessing to have you doing your 60 second reflections! Honestly, I didn’t discover them until recently. They are part of my morning before leaving for daily Mass. Thank you so much and God Bless you and Michelle! Sure miss you on the radio!

Thanks so much for continuing to do your daily one minute reflections. I begin each day with your reflections. They help almost always have great insights that help me understand the readings for the Mass of the day.
