The Importance of Prayer

Posted on

Moses was the greatest of all the prophets. Yet he did not get to take the final step of leading his people into the promised land. Today's first reading from Deuteronomy 34 tells the story of the end of Moses' life.

In the Gospel reading from Matthew 18, Jesus talks about settling disputes. He then goes on to teach the disciples about prayer. “Amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” A comforting thought, no?

How is your prayer life these days? I’m sure you have an ongoing conversation with God throughout the day, right? But are you “gathering together” for prayer? Do you have a prayer partner? Ideally, if you are married, this would be your spouse. I can attest to the power of conjugal prayer. If you’re not praying regularly with your husband or wife, or children, why not start today? It doesn’t have to be anything long or formal. If you can’t think of anything else, just hold hands and pray an Our Father, a Hail Mary and a Glory Be. Remember…the family (or couple) that prays together, stays together!

Father, put on our hearts the importance of praying with one another. We bring you our needs and know that you will answer all of our prayers because we come in the name of Jesus. Amen.

My wife and I say the rosary together every evening. Before it, we state our intentions and after it we express that which we are grateful for.

We agree that this practice has brought much more laughter into our lives as it helps us remember Who is in charge!

    God bless you!🙏
