The Holy Family

Posted on

The Sunday after Christmas is the Feast of the Holy Family. There are a couple of options for a second reading today, and all of the readings talk about family and relationships. Click on the link below to see the readings. We would do well to read them all.

The Holy Family is the perfect example of what a family is, and should be. A father, a mother and child(ren). And this perfection obviously goes much deeper than just biology. Jesus, Mary and Joseph were completely dedicated to doing God’s will. While we here on earth will never achieve this kind of perfection, it is nonetheless something that we need to strive for.

You know the old saying, “You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family.” We all have some degree of dysfunction in our families. And, at one time or another, we have all been hurt by one family member or another. But family is a divine institution. So let us pray that we can model our families after THE model of family: The Holy Family.

Father, we thank you for our family. Teach us to seek forgiveness from those family members whom we have hurt, and to forgive those who have hurt us. Amen.
