In today's first reading from Revelation 20 and 21, in John's vision of heaven, "Then another scroll was opened, the book of life."
And then we read this: "Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the pool of fire." Of course, the pool of fire is hell.
When the history of the world is finally written, how do you think you'll be remembered? I'm not sure that I would even make a footnote. And honestly, it doesn't matter. What matters is that our names are recorded in the book of life. Through our baptism, our faith in Jesus and how we live, let's make sure that we're living our lives in a manner worthy of the book of life.
Father, we long for heaven, for our names to be recorded in the book of life. Help us to live remembering that final destination. Amen.
