Today's Gospel reading continues in the Bread of Life discourse from John 6.
Jesus says, "It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God." (Here Jesus is quoting Isaiah 54:13.)
Little did the people in that little synagogue in Capernaum know they were literally being taught by God - the eternal Son, the second person of the Trinity. Of course, we have the benefit of the Scriptures and the authoritative teaching of the Church. Even still, most folks aren't interested in being taught by God. We kind of like making up our own rules as we go along.
Father, help us be receptive and obedient to the teachings of Christ, to being taught by God. Amen.
