Today's first reading from Galatians 3 starts with a bang. "O stupid Galatians!" And shortly thereafter, "Are you so stupid?" In our Gospel reading from Luke 11, Jesus tells us what will happen when we ask, seek and knock.
I wonder what St. Paul's words would go over like today. We live in a time where the greatest sin one can commit is to not be nice. And I guess calling someone stupid would be considered not nice. But there's a bigger question, a reality that must be faced. Is it correct?
If I'm honest, I have to admit a great deal of stupidity - spiritual and otherwise. God has been so good and merciful to me, yet I continually turn my back on him through sin. And I often think to myself, "How could you be so stupid?" Perhaps a little dose of reality can be cause for awakening.
Father, forgive my spiritual stupidity. May we learn our lessons and gain wisdom from our current stupidity. Amen.
