In today's first reading from 1 Corinthians 2, St. Paul juxtaposes "the natural man" with "the one who is spiritual." This reading is a reminder that there is much more than what the eye can see.
St. Paul writes, "We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand the things freely given us by God. And we speak about them not with words taught by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms."
So many people today deny this idea of "spiritual realities." They think it all just superstition and hocus pocus. But we know better. There are powerful forces at work unseen - both good and bad. There is a constant spiritual battle being waged every moment of the day. Don't be caught off guard. Always remember - the greatest trick the devil can do is to make people think he doesn't exist. That's the spiritual reality.
Father, may we always be aware of the spiritual realities of life, never forgetting that you are in control. Amen.
