Today is the Feast of Saints Philip and James. Philip and James were two of the Apostles. The first reading today is from 1 Corinthians 15, where St. Paul mentions that Jesus appeared to James.
The Gospel reading today is from John 14, where Philip says to Jesus, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” Jesus (a bit perturbed, I think) says to Philip, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
For Christians, the notion of Jesus being the eternal Son of God is a core truth. When we see Jesus, we see God; therefore, we see the Father. Jesus came to show the world the Father. As imitators of Christ, are not we called to do the same – show the world the Father? By our words, by our actions, when people see us, they should see the image of the Father. When we show them Jesus in us, we show them the Father.
Father, may we show you to the world by our love. As people see Christ in us, may they see you in us. Amen.
