Shining the Light of Christ

Posted on

Today’s first reading from Daniel 13 is such a cool story. It reads like a mystery thriller. Susanna is falsely accused of something she didn’t do by two dirty old men. Daniel comes to the rescue! Daniel exposes the dirty old men’s lies and justice is brought to bear. Don’t pass this one up!

In the Gospel reading from John 8, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Darkness and light are common themes in the Scriptures, and St. John was big on that theme. In the liturgy leading up to Christmas, we read from Isaiah, “Those who were in the darkness have seen a great light.” Now we hear Jesus juxtaposing light and darkness.

Have you ever noticed a fellow Christian who just seemed to glow? Someone who just seemed to have light coming out of them? That is the light of Christ. And as Catholics, we who take in the Body and Blood of Christ, we should have the light of Christ just pouring out of us. Do we? Because the closer we walk with Jesus, the more we follow Him, the more we have Him IN us, the more His light will shine out from us.

Father, help us to walk in the light that is Christ Jesus. May His light shine out from us more and more. Amen.
