Seeing His Glory

Posted on

Today is the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Jesus took Peter, James and John up Mount Tabor and they witnessed something remarkable.

In the account from St. Luke, which we read in today's Mass, it says: "Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him." Those two men were Moses and Elijah.

Two quick thoughts about this passage. First, notice they became "fully awake" and "saw his glory." Do you realize that whenever we go to Holy Mass, we "see his glory?" Now, I doubt they saw a host as we see at every Mass, but when we look upon the consecrated host, we are seeing His glory. Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist. The problem is that so few are "fully awake." We sleepwalk and daydream through Mass to the point where we miss His glory. Next time you're at Mass, be sure you're "fully awake" and recognize that you are seeing the One who created you! See His glory!

Father, may we be fully awake and see and know and share His glory. Amen.
