Scurrying to Jesus

Posted on

In today's first reading from 1 Kings 8, Solomon and the people bring the Ark of the Covenant to the temple. In the Gospel reading from Mark 6, Jesus continues His healing ministry.

"As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was."

I love the use of the word "scurried." Dictionary.com defines scurry as "to go or move quickly or in haste." The people were excited. They didn't want to miss their opportunity to encounter Jesus. They didn't take Jesus for granted, so they moved quickly to be near Him. It makes me reflect on whether I take Jesus for granted. I hope that we will never lose the sense of excitement and anticipation that would cause us to scurry off to meet Jesus.

Father, may we never take our faith for granted. May we always be excited about every encounter we have with Jesus. Amen.
