In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 11, Jesus pronounces woes on two towns because they witnessed the mighty deeds of Jesus, yet failed to repent.
In the first reading from Exodus 2, we read about Moses' early life. The Pharaoh had decreed that all male Hebrew children be killed. But Moses' mother put him in a basket and floated it in the Nile river, where Pharaoh's daughter discovered the child. She adopted him as her own son. Moses became part of the royal family.
It's always interesting to see how God works. Pharaoh's daughter could have easily just dumped the kid in the basket into the river. But she didn't. God softened her heart, and she changed the course of history. Moses was saved by the belle. Could God be softening your heart today, perhaps to help save someone?
Father, soften our hearts that we may share your compassion with someone who needs it today. Amen.
