Satisfaction

Posted on

Let's start today with a question. Fill in the blank: God is _____. What's your answer? Good? Faithful? Merciful? All of those would of course be correct. But in our first reading today from 1 John 4, St. John says, "God is love." I think that sums it up nicely, no?

In today's Gospel reading from Mark 6, we read about Jesus feeding the multitude. The Scripture says, "They all ate and were satisfied." We know that this miraculous feeding was a prefigurement of the Eucharist.

I think of a couple of different connotations of "satisfied." One would be that their bellies were full, so they were satisfied. Another would be that the food was delicious, so they were satisfied. Either way, it implies that they wanted for nothing more. Is this true for us when it comes to Jesus? Is Jesus enough for you? Or are you always feeling like you want something more? Are you like Mick Jagger, who "can't get no satisfaction"? Let's pray that with Jesus, we, too, will be satisfied.

Father, you gave us your Son, the Lord Jesus, that we may eat His Flesh and drink His Blood. May we always be satisfied, wanting nothing more. Amen.
