In today's first reading from 2 Kings 4, a woman does a kind deed for the prophet Elisha. For her kindness, she is rewarded with a son. In the Gospel reading from Matthew 10, Jesus speaks of rewards.
"Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward." He continues from there.
Have you ever been rewarded for something? Maybe given an honor or raise at work? Or a community or group award for service? It's nice to be rewarded. And when we do God's work and God's will, we'll receive the greatest reward of all - eternal life.
Father, may our words and our deeds always be pleasing to you, that we might receive our reward. Amen.
