Remembered Like David

Posted on

For today's first reading, we get a recap of David's life from Sirach 47. The Gospel reading from Mark 6 recounts the story of the killing of John the Baptist.

David reigned as king for forty years. He lived one of the most amazing lives ever recorded. Go this day, thousands of years later, we read about and remember him. Few people in history have had the acclaim of King David.

This reminds me of my legacy. I suspect that a few years after my death, my name will be remembered by very few. And a couple of decades later, nary a soul will think of me. But that's okay. Because this life, and the things of it, are transitory. But God loves you every bit as much as he loves David. And that means more than any earthly legacy we can leave.

Father, when all the world forgets our name, may we live with you in heavenly glory. Amen.
