Questions for God

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 13, Jesus explains the parable of the weeds in the field. Today's first reading from Jeremiah 14 features a number of questions.

The people felt far from God. Jeremiah asked: "Have you cast Judah off completely? Is Zion loathsome to you? Why have you struck us a blow that cannot be healed?" These questions are followed by a plea for mercy.

Do you ever question God? I think we all do, at one time or another. Especially when we feel abandoned. At times it seems like our questions go unanswered for years. Like Jeremiah, our questions should always be followed by a prayer - a plea for mercy and compassion. God will answer. Sometimes we just have to wait.

Father, have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and hear our cry, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
