Proverbs

Posted on

Today's first reading is from Proverbs 21.  The Gospel reading is from Luke 8, where Jesus describes who His mother and brothers are. "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of  God and act on it."

Most of the Book of Proverbs are single sentence nuggets of wisdom, attributed to King Solomon. I don't want to single out any one for a reflection today, but I want to suggest a way for you to do just that. Today on my radio show I'll engage in "Proverbs roulette," a variation on Bible roulette. I'll randomly select a Proverb and share it with a listener.

Open the Book of Proverbs in your bible and randomly select a passage. Ask God how that nugget of wisdom applies to you. As with all Scripture, as you go deeper, you may be surprised.

Father, we thank you for the wisdom of Solomon as recorded in Proverbs. May we grow in wisdom through your holy word. Amen.
