Post-Resurrection Life

Posted on

The first reading today from Revelation 11 is filled with imagery of martyrs, prophets of old, Rome and more. I encourage you to read a bit of background on what John describes.

In the Gospel from Luke 20, some Saducees, who don’t believe in the resurrection of the body, throw a trick question at Jesus about who a woman would be married to at the resurrection.

I can just see Jesus shaking his head and thinking to himself, dudes, you’ve got it all wrong. He goes on to explain a bit about what life will be like at the resurrection. “They neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels.” We’re not quite sure exactly what that will be like. But we won’t have any need to marry or engage in other relationships like we do now. Why? Because we will be able to love perfectly. Not just the people we love now, but everyone. Can you imagine? Perhaps we could give that a try while we’re still walking around here on the planet, huh?

Father, we look forward to the resurrection. Help us to love more today, while we are still here on earth, that we might draw closer to that time when we will love perfectly. Amen.
