In today’s Gospel reading from Luke 24, Jesus appears to the disciples after the resurrection. Two disciples had just told the others how they encountered Jesus on the road to Emmaus, and how He was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
“Peace be with you.” Jesus knew how troubled they all were. The events of the past few days had tried their very souls. And they had not yet seen Him. They thought they were seeing a ghost. Thus His opening words.
“Peace be with you.” Peace can sometimes be a scarce commodity in our lives. We have so many things to trouble us. That’s why these words of Jesus are ones that we should always carry with us. He offers us His peace every day. All we need to do is trust and accept.
Father, fill our hearts with the peace of Christ. Amen.
