On Fire for Jesus

Posted on

Today's first reading is from 2 Timothy 1. St. Paul tells Timothy, “I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.” Interesting words…stir into flame the gift of God that you have. It makes one wonder if the gift of God had turned into an ember in St. Timothy’s life. I rather doubt that. But I think that fire for God can always burn more brightly in our lives.

Have you ever met someone who is "on fire for Jesus?" I've met lots of folks like that. And I'm inspired and excited by every one of them. There are so many ways to be on fire for Jesus.

For some, it may mean very outward and enthusiastic expressions of faith. For others, it may mean quietly spending time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Whatever that looks like for you, I want to encourage you to be on fire for Jesus. Stir your faith into flames! Because lukewarm ain't gonna cut it.

Father, may we be on fire for Jesus every day! Stir our faith into flame, in His mighty name. Amen.
