Today's Gospel reading is one that we've heard recently from Matthew 14. It's the story of Jesus walking on the water and inviting Peter to do the same.
As the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water in the middle of the night, they were terrified. Jesus says to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." So, what is courage?
Many people mistakenly think courage is the absence of fear. Pshaw! Courage is not the absence of fear but rather how we respond to fear. We can give in to our fears and cower or slink away. Or we can boldly stand up and move ahead, putting our trust and confidence in God. How will you respond to your fears today?
Father, give us the courage we need to do your will, always. We put all our trust in you, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
