No Condemnation

Posted on

In the first reading today from Romans 8, St. Paul writes, "Now there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Sounds great, right? But what does this mean? Does it mean that just because one is baptized that person will automatically go to heaven? Or that if one professes Jesus Christ as Lord once in their lives their ticket to heaven is punched? The answer to both is no.

Catholics look at salvation as a journey. We believe that we must commit our lives to Christ every moment of every day. It is not a one-time event. So St. Paul's words are true. The key is that we must be "in Christ Jesus" 24/7/365. (366 in a leap year.)

Father, may we be in Christ Jesus every moment of every day, that we may not see condemnation. Amen.
