The early Christians were badly persecuted. We read about that in today's first reading from Acts 8. We also see that "Saul, meanwhile, was trying to destroy the Church..."
In today's Gospel reading from John 6, we continue in the Bread of Life discourse. Jesus says, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."
Have you ever been hungry or thirsty? Of course; we all have. But Jesus is referring to a much deeper hunger than the one in our bellies. The hunger of the soul. Jesus is the only one who can sate that hunger and thirst. So often we go off in search of other ways to satisfy that spiritual hunger. Let's always return to the Bread of Life - Jesus Christ.
Father, may we always seek to satisfy our spiritual hunger and thirst in Christ Jesus alone. Amen.
