In today's Gospel passage from Luke, we read about the beginning of Jesus' public ministry. He reads from Isaiah in the synagogue and says, "Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing."
In the second reading from 1 Corinthians 12, St. Paul analogizes the human body with the body of Christ. Just as each body part has a specific purpose, so also the body of Christ. St. Paul then goes on to list different ministries in the Church.
Every member of the body of Christ has been given a gift. God has gifted you with something special to fulfill a specific purpose in the body; one only you can fulfill. We must always use our gifts for the benefit of the Kingdom. If you're not utilizing (or under-utilizing) your gift(s), ask the Lord what ministry he has prepared for you.
Father, show us how to best use our gifts in service to you and the body of Christ. Amen.
