Like Fuzzy Cheese

Posted on

Have you ever answered a question, "Well, yes and no." I'm sure I have. And sometimes that may by a legit answer. But read about what St. Paul has to say about that in today's first reading from 2 Corinthians 1.

In our Gospel reading from Matthew 5, Jesus says, "You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."

Have you ever looked through a cabinet or cupboard for something - a food item or perhaps medicine - and discovered that it expired long ago? Maybe you pulled out a hunk of cheese from way in the back of the fridge, only to discover it's covered with green fuzz. (Yuck!) Your only course of action is to toss it away. Is this what happens to a believer when they lose their faith, their zeal? Read those words of Jesus again and think about the consequences of us "losing our flavor." Don't become like fuzzy cheese.

Father, help us to never lose our flavor, our zeal for the faith, so that we may not be trampled underfoot. Amen.
