Lessons from the Unjust Judge

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 18, Jesus tells a parable about an unjust judge. A widow comes to him seeking a judgment, but he refuses. The widow, however, kept pestering him for a judgment. Eventually he relents.

Jesus says, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily."

This reminds us of two things. First, we must be persistent in prayer. While we may feel we're pestering God, I'm sure he doesn't feel that way. Second, God answers prayers. Maybe not in the way we desire or expect, but God will answer our prayers in the way he knows is just.

Father, thank you for always hearing and answering our prayers because of our persistence. Amen.
