In today's first reading from Acts 18, we are introduced to Apollos, "an eloquent speaker...he was an authority on the Scriptures." Apollos was a great preacher, but he didn't know the whole of the Christian faith. He had to be taught.
"But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the Way of God more accurately." Was Apollos offended by this? Absolutely not. We can deduce that he readily accepted this fuller teaching from others who were more knowledgeable than he.
I have a favorite saying about my Catholic faith. The more I know, the more I know I don't know and the more I know I need to know. We should all be like Apollos and be eager to learn more about our beautiful and rich faith. Let's always remain hungry for more of God - in head knowledge and in heart knowledge.
Father, may we be eager to always learn more about your ways. Send us faithful teachers to guide us along the way, as you did for Apollos. Amen.
