Interceding

Posted on

Ever wonder what things will be like after Jesus returns. That is, after all, a basic tenet of our faith; that Christ will come again. Well, wonder no more! The prophet Isaiah gives us a beautiful picture of “the new heavens and the new earth.” Check it out…”There shall always be rejoicing and happiness…No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there, or the sound of crying…” Nice, huh?

Our Gospel reading today is from John 4. This part of John’s Gospel is called The Book of Signs. And today we read about the second sign Jesus did when he came to Galilee from Judea. A man comes and asks Jesus to go to his home and heal his son, who is dying. Jesus says to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.” Undaunted by the rebuke, the man persists. Jesus says to him, “You may go; your son will live.” And from that moment on the boy was healed.

This is another wonderful example of how Jesus used the faith of another to perform a miracle healing. If you have ever been doubtful about intercessory prayer, doubt no more. This father interceded on behalf of his son. Jesus did not need to physically lay hands on the boy. The faith of his father was enough. So, who will you intercede for today? Who can you bring to Jesus today in faith?

Father, hear our prayers as we offer up our children, spouses, friends and family to Jesus in faith. Touch them and heal them in your great mercy. Amen.
