For the next week, our Gospel readings will be from John 6. It starts off today with Jesus feeding 5000 with just five loaves and two fish. In the first reading from Acts 5, a wise rabbi addresses the Sanhedrin about the Apostles and these new followers of the Way.
Gamaliel says, "For if this endeavor or this activity is of human origin, it will destroy itself. But if it comes from God, you will not be able to destroy them; you may even find yourselves fighting against God." This certainly became prophetic for the Church.
Have you ever struggled with God's will for you? I think we all have. And I think Gamaliel's words hold true in many areas of our lives. God puts a desire in our heart for a reason. Sometimes we just have to give it a shot and see if it's from God. If it goes south, maybe it was from God but was preparing you for something else. My point it this: if you have a passion for something, follow it and see what God wants to do with it.
Father, help us to remember to put everything into your hands, and give us good discernment to know whether our endeavors are from you. Amen.
