Have you ever puzzled over God's designs? I know I do...often. And it's easy to wonder why.
In today's Gospel reading from Luke 9, Jesus says something to His disciples. "The Son of Man is to be handed over to men." The next verse tells us, "But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it..."
Does God hide his intentions from our understanding? The answer to that is certainly above my pay grade, but perhaps he does. Or is it that our human understanding is so limited that we can't comprehend God's meaning some times? Closer, maybe? Whatever the answer, we must always be assured that God has a purpose and a plan for everything, whether we understand it now or not. And trust that in the end, things will work out.
Father, you know how little our understanding is of your will sometimes. Give us the trust we need to know of your love and mercy. Amen.
I agree with everything you said. The line that I don’t understand is why “they were afraid to ask him about this saying.” So many times I have pictured myself sitting at His feet as Martha’s sister Mary did – and asking Him my whole list of questions!
