Grace and Thanksgiving

Posted on

Happy Feast of St. Anthony of Padua! In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 5, Jesus says, "Everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Stark words, especially in the pornified culture in which we live today. Be warned: your soul is in jeopardy if you do porn.

Today's first reading from 2 Corinthians 4 is a passage filled with hope. Even when bad stuff happens all around us, we can still have victory in Jesus. The passage ends with this: "Everything is indeed for you, so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God."

Do you ever contemplate the abundance of grace God bestows on you daily? I hope so. When our eyes are open to that reality, we can't help but to be thankful. And that thanksgiving should overflow, as St. Paul says, for the glory of God. So take some time each day to look around and see the overflowing grace in your life, and let your thanksgiving overflow in kind.

Father, thank you for the many graces and blessings you shower us with every day. May we always be overflowing in gratitude and thanksgiving. Amen.
