I always like to remind Catholics that they know plenty of Scripture. Most shy away from that thought because they don’t really know chapter and verse. Yet there is so much Scripture in the Mass, we can’t help but know it. Let me give an example. It’s taken from the second reading in today’s Mass.
If I were to ask you to quote 1 Corinthians 1:3, you may give me a blank stare. Here it is: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” Sound familiar? It should, because you’ve probably heard a priest say it at the beginning of Mass, right after the sign of the cross. Ahhh…now I remember!
What a beautiful way to open the Liturgy. A prayer for grace and peace. St. Paul opened all his letters with this blessing. And it is my prayer for you. May the Lord pour out his grace upon you and give you his peace. Pray that for someone you love today!
Father, thank you for your grace and peace. May we share both with others every day. Amen.
