Today's Gospel reading from Matthew 20 is the parable of the workers in the vineyard.
A man hires men to work in his vineyard at different times of the day. At the end of the day, he gives them all the same pay, regardless of how long they worked. Those who worked a full day were angry and upset that the men who only worked a few hours got the same pay as they. The landowner says, "Are you envious because I am generous?"
If you got to heaven and discovered murderers and thieves and prostitutes there, would you be upset? Or would you rejoice that they had repented and God had been generous to them? Too often we're all about other people's business, to the point where we may even questions God's generosity and mercy. Be joyful that God is so generous. After all, he has been to you.
Father, we're thankful for your generosity, to us and to others. May we always rejoice in your goodness. Amen.
