God of All

Posted on

God is a God for all people. Jesus came to call Jew and Gentile, slave and free. Here's how it's put in today's first reading from Isaiah 56.

Let not the foreigner say, when he would join himself to the LORD, "The LORD will surely exclude me from his people." The foreigners who join themselves to the LORD...All who keep the sabbath free from profanation and hold to my covenant, them I will bring to my holy mountain and make joyful in my house of prayer.

Jesus came for all, and all have the ability to "join themselves to the Lord." Don't mistake this for the false notion that everyone is going to heaven. Jesus disabused His disciples of that notion clearly. But the invitation is open to all. Christ calls everyone to Himself. Not everyone will accept the invitation. Have you? Have you extended the invitation to others?

Father, we thank you for calling all people to yourself through your Son, Christ Jesus. May we renew our acceptance to the invitation each day. Amen.
