We are in a constant spiritual battle. If we fail to recognize this, we do so at our own peril. But we never have to go it alone.
In today's first reading from Deuteronomy 31, Moses is old and is firing up the troops to go and take the Promised Land. Moses tells the troops to go confidently into battle, "for it is the LORD, your God, who marches with you; he will never fail you or forsake you." He then tells the same to Joshua, who would take Moses' place as leader of the people.
So many people don't even realize the spiritual battle that is at hand. While they may grudgingly admit there is a God, they don't believe in Satan or evil. For those of us who do, we need never be afraid. For just as he did with the Israelites thousands of years ago, God marches with us today. So be brave and steadfast! God wins!
Father, give us all the courage we need to do battle with the evil one today. Amen.
