Giving Light

Posted on

Today's Gospel reading is Matthew 5:13-16, from the Sermon on the Mount. Here Jesus says, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.”

We are called to be light-givers – giving light to others. There’s an old expression that says you can’t give what you don’t have. If we don’t have the light of Christ shining in us, then that light cannot shine out of us. But when we do have the light of Christ in us, it cannot help but shine out of us. Let us pray that the light that is within us will continue to give light to others.

Father, may the light of Christ burn brightly in us today. As we show others His love, may that light be a beacon to those in darkness. Amen.
