In today's Gospel reading, we begin the Bread of Life discourse from John 6. We'll continue reading it for the next three Sundays.
Jesus says, "For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." The people reply, "Sir, give us this bread always." Little did they know that was exactly God's plan.
Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the Last Supper. And ever since, the Bread of Life has been made available to all who believe. It has been thus for two thousand years, and will continue until the return of the Lord. He has kept His word; He has given the world this Bread always.
Father, we thank you that we are privileged to receive the Bread of Life in the Holy Eucharist. May we remain in a state of grace to receive, always. Amen.
