Seize the Day returned live today as Gus paid tribute to Cardinal Emeritus Edward Egan, former cardinal archbishop of New York and founder of the Catholic Channel. We were joined by several guests, including two of the late cardinal’s brother bishops; Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of the archdiocese of Louisville, Kentucky and current president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Cardinal Dolan Wuerl of the archdiocese of Washington D.C. To hear both interviews in their entirety, click here.
We also heard from two former Catholic Channel program directors who knew Cardinal Egan very well. First up was the inaugural PD and current Westchester, New York County Executive Robert Astorino who hosted “A Conversation with the Cardinal” with the late prelate on the Catholic Channel from 2006 to 2009. Afterwards, Fr. Jonathan Morris, who ran the channel from 2012 to 2014, called in to talk about his personal relationship with Cardinal Egan.
We also heard from Bob Dunning, one of the original Catholic Channel broadcasters, who hosted “Across the Nation” from 2006 to 2011. Bob shared his memories of Cardinal Egan, including flying to New York from his hometown of Sacramento, California to take part in his final show.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
