Today's Gospel reading from Luke 5 is about the call of Levi. Not sure who Levi is? We know him better as Matthew. He was a tax collector.
Jesus sees Levi sitting at his customs post. He says to him, "Follow me." The Scripture then tells us, "And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him." Just like that! No questions about where they may be going or what may happen to him. He just walked away from his gig and followed Jesus.
Do we have that same kind of faith? I daresay most of us aren't inclined to just walk headlong into the unknown. We like to have a plan, to know what's up ahead. See, the thing is, when you follow Jesus unreservedly, it doesn't matter what's up ahead. We know that Jesus will always take care of us, no matter what. Shall we follow?
Father, may we have the faith of Levi and follow Jesus wherever He may lead. Amen.
This reflection touched my heart. Having been diagnosed in October with a very early case of breast cancer. These are the words I live by.
“When you follow Jesus unreservedly, it doesn’t matter what’s up ahead. We know that Jesus will always take care of us, no matter what.” He did and He always will. Amen and Amen! Thanks Gus – means a lot to have you in life! Red Rosary Ro
