Filled With Expectation

Posted on

In today's Gospel reading from Luke 3, the people come to ask John the Baptist questions. They weren't quite sure who he was. They "were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ." Of course, John set them straight on that.

"Now the people were filled with expectation." Seems for them, it was Advent! This is a time that our hearts should be filled with expectation. That word takes on many meanings for us during this season.

As children, we're filled with expectation about our gifts. What's inside that big box? What treats await us in the stocking? As adults, we're often filled with expectations about family gatherings. We can't wait to see our children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. And as Christians, we wait with expectation about the coming of the Lord. When will He return? Could it be today?

Father, we await the coming of Jesus again. Help us to prepare well for His return. Amen.
