Ever get a word stuck in your head? Maybe a word or a phrase that you just can’t get out of your mind. Let me give you a suggestion for one today. We get it from our first reading from 2 Corinthians 1. The word is “Yes!” St. Paul says that “yes” has always been in Christ Jesus. Anything that the Father asks, Jesus’ answer is always “Yes!” Is yours? If not, let’s work toward that today.
Now, my next comment is one that often makes me uncomfortable, and perhaps will you, too. We are very much like Jesus. How do I arrive at this? Well, look at today’s Gospel reading from Matthew 5. Jesus says, “You are the light of the world.” Now, in John 8, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.” So which is it? Jesus, or you? How about both!
When the light of Jesus shines out through us, we are, indeed, the light of the world. But there is a caveat. And Jesus gives it to us today. “Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Our light must shine out, not for ourselves, but for God. So, are you ready to fill the world today with Sonshine?
Father, help us to be the light of the world today. Fill us with your grace, that all that we say and do may bring glory to you. Amen.
