In today’s Gospel reading from Luke 12, Jesus says, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” He then tells a parable about a man who was bent on acquiring things, but was not “rich in what matters to God.” Let’s make sure that we are rich in what matters to God.
Romans 4 is all about Abraham and his faith. In today’s first reading, St. Paul tells us that Abraham “was empowered by faith and gave glory to God and was fully convinced that what God had promised he was also able to do.” That’s faith! Believing that God is true to his word, and fully able to carry out that word. I believe that God has a great plan for your life, and has the power to bring that plan to fruition!
“Empowered by faith.” What a great thought. It can be so easy to feel powerless, can’t it? As though we’re just little peons and someone else is in charge of our lives. And let me say this – without God we truly are powerless. But our faith empowers us. It enables us to tap into God’s great power. It gives us the strength and fortitude to become all that God wants us to be. You have the power, my friend! It is the power of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Use it today to build up the Kingdom on earth!
Father, we thank you for your great power being made manifest in our lives through our faith in Christ. May that faith empower us to go out and do your will today. Amen.
