What is love? Here's what St. John says in today's first reading from 1 John 4: In this is love: not that we have loved God, but the he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.
In the Gospel reading from Mark 6, Jesus feeds five thousand. The disciples ask Jesus to send them away to go find food. But Jesus says to them, "Give them some food yourselves." The disciples are puzzled, knowing there was no way they could accomplish this. By their response, you can tell they thought this was a ridiculous request. Obviously, Jesus knew this, and knew that He would take care of the task.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by something God is asking of you? Like there's no possible way you could handle that? Perhaps it was being part of a particular ministry. Or forgiving someone who has hurt you badly. The thing we so often forget is that when we say yes, God will provide. Just as Jesus did on that day.
Father, forgive us for our lack of faith. Give us the grace to do whatever you ask of us, no matter how ridiculous it may seem to us at the time, and to watch you provide. Amen.
